LEGAL / LICENSING
Licenses
NutsEmu and the NutsEmu Companion are proprietary software by Evan Bolton / Nuts Engineering. They are built on open-source components, and each of those components stays under its own license. Nothing in our license, our EULA, Patreon's terms or any Patreon tier limits the rights those licenses give you, including your LGPL rights to modify, rebuild and replace the LGPL libraries and to reverse engineer for debugging such changes.
01 / THIRD-PARTY NOTICES
Third-party notices
NutsEmu and NutsEmu Companion are proprietary software by Evan Bolton, except NutsEmu's changes
to Wine: those, including NutsSync (include/wine/nutssync.h, NutsEmu's in-process
synchronization for Wine) and NutsEmu's iOS compatibility layer compiled into Wine, are free
software under the GNU LGPL 2.1 or later and are published with Wine's source. NutsEmu's winnt.h
wrapper, compiled into vkd3d-proton's d3d12.dll and d3d12core.dll, is also under the LGPL 2.1 or
later, and the build scripts published with the source are under the MIT License.
They include the open-source components listed below. Each component stays under its own
license. Nothing in the NutsEmu license (EULA), in Patreon's Terms of Use or in a Patreon tier
limits the rights those licenses give you. The full license texts are in the licenses/
folder that comes with this file.
Source code: the complete corresponding source of every LGPL component (Wine, vkd3d-proton,
GnuTLS, libtasn1, libunistring, Nettle, mini-GMP, apple-codesign-quick), our changes to those
components, their build scripts and configuration, and the object files for relinking DXMT's
winemetal.dll with a modified Wine winecrt0, for each released build (starting with build 1337), are available free of
charge at https://nutsdeveloping.com/source. See SOURCE-OFFER.md for the written offer.
Intended use. NutsEmu is a development build of a Windows-to-iOS translation layer, shared with supporters of its development for testing, research, learning and development. It is in active development and is not a finished consumer product. You install it and sign it with your own Apple ID on your own device, for your personal use, and you are responsible for complying with the terms of Apple's developer program and of any third-party tools you use with it (for example JIT/VPN helpers such as LocalDevVPN, or sideloading tools). This does not limit the open-source license rights described in this file.
Part A: NutsEmu (iPhone app, NutsEmu.ipa)
A1. LGPL components: important notice
NutsEmu uses the following libraries, which are covered by the GNU Lesser General Public
License. They are separate shared libraries (.so, .dll, .dylib) that NutsEmu loads at run
time. You may modify them, rebuild them, replace them in the app and re-sign the app with your
own Apple ID. The NutsEmu license permits that and permits reverse engineering for debugging
such modifications. Copies of the LGPL 2.1, the LGPL 3 and the GPL 3 are in licenses/.

Wine bundles other projects' code. Their original copyright notices are reproduced in full
in licenses/wine/NOTICES.md (Wine's own file; for example FFmpeg, mpg123, FluidSynth, vkd3d,
zlib, libpng, libjpeg, LibTIFF, libxml2, Little CMS, musl, Unicode data, Bitstream Vera).
FFmpeg: This software uses code of FFmpeg (https://ffmpeg.org) licensed under the LGPLv2.1
(the copy bundled in Wine's source tree: libswscale, libswresample, libavutil, inside Wine's
colorcnv.dll, msvproc.dll, vidreszr.dll, iyuv_32.dll, resampledmo.dll). Its source can
be downloaded at https://nutsdeveloping.com/source. NutsEmu does not own FFmpeg. Its copyright holders are listed in
FFmpeg's source.
WMA v2 format tables: NutsEmu's own WMA decoder (wmadmod.dll) contains numeric format
tables (Huffman codebooks, band tables) generated from FFmpeg's libavcodec/wmadata.h,
aactab.c and wma_freqs.c, which are licensed under the LGPL-2.1-or-later. The generated table
file wma_tables.c keeps FFmpeg's copyright notice and is published at https://nutsdeveloping.com/source.

Changes: components marked "Modified" include changes made by Evan Bolton. For the LGPL components, those changes are published as dated patch files at https://nutsdeveloping.com/source. MoltenVK and SPIRV-Cross (Apache-2.0) have been modified by Evan Bolton, and each changed file carries a notice stating that it was changed.

LGPL notice (apple-codesign-quick): the Apple sign-in helper is a "work that uses the Library"
apple-codesign-quick, which is covered by the GNU LGPL 2.1 (licenses/LGPL-2.1.txt). Because the
library is statically linked, the helper's own source code, its Cargo.lock, the library's
source and the rebuild steps are provided at https://nutsdeveloping.com/source (and in SigningSource/ inside the app). You can modify the library and rebuild the helper. The NutsEmu license permits that and
permits reverse engineering for debugging such modifications.
Network service: Apple sign-in uses the StikStore anisette service (https://ani.stikstore.app), operated by a third party, to generate Apple authentication headers. It is not part of the Companion and not covered by this file. See the EULA's privacy section.
